Adventure and Tsingy of Bemaraha

 

7 to 10 days

A circuit combining adventure and classic exploration awaits you. Embark on a journey to discover the world-renowned and UNESCO-listed Tsingy de Bemaraha, traversing remote areas of western Madagascar, including waterfalls, rivers, picturesque rice paddies, and tobacco plantations. Encounter the people of the river, explore primary forests teeming with lemurs and birds.

 

Itinerary:
Antananarivo – Antsirabe – Miandrivazo – Masiakampy – Belo sur Tsiribihina – Bekopaka – Belo sur Tsiribihina – Morondava.

 

 

Day 1 – Antananarivo – Antsirabe (Approximately 3 hours)

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart for Antsirabe via RN7 (National Road No. 7), admiring vast rice fields, hills, and villages that characterize the highlands landscape. Stop in Ambatolampy, a town known for traditional aluminum kitchenware manufacturing and a place to taste Malagasy foie gras.
  • Lunch on-site or in Behenjy.
  • Arrival in Antsirabe in the afternoon with hotel check-in.
  • City tour in a rickshaw.
  • Overnight at a hotel** or ***.

 

Day 2 – Antsirabe, the City of Water – Miandrivazo

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Early morning departure to reach the western part of Madagascar. Panoramic views of vegetable plantations and rice cultivation in the region, showcasing the daily life of highland villagers.
  • Picnic lunch.
  • Arrival in Miandrivazo by late afternoon for relaxation after a 6-hour drive.
  • Night and accommodation at the hotel**.

 

Day 3 – Miandrivazo – Masiakampy – Tsiribihina River

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Departure to the Masiakampy jetty to board a flat-bottomed boat or traditional canoe crossing the Tsiribihina River. Admire the fauna and flora of the region, with a chance to see lemurs.
  • Lunch on board the boat.
  • Dinner and camping on the beach in tents.

 

Day 4 – Tsiribihina River

  • Breakfast.
  • The cruise continues, entering the Bemaraha Gorge, encountering endemic fauna and flora (lemurs, chameleons, turtles, crocodiles) surrounded by vibrant vegetation, hiding waterfalls, and natural pools. Camp on the sandy riverbanks.
  • Stop at a magnificent scarlet waterfall. The more courageous’ can reach a superb natural pool after a 30-minute walk.
  • Continue to Tsaraontana with the possibility of seeing lemurs and other fauna.
  • Dinner and camping on the beach.

 

Day 5 – Tsiribihina River

  • The last day to admire the daily life of villagers living along the Tsiribihina River.
  • Continue the descent as gorges gradually give way to crops and tobacco plantations. Disembark in a small bush village for lunch before reaching the village of Antsiraraka with a short walk, accompanied by a zebu-drawn cart.
  • Night in a traditional bungalow.

 

Day 6 – Antsiraraka – Belo Tsiribihina – Bekopaka

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart in a 4×4 on a laterite track scattered with baobabs. Cross the Tsiribihina by ferry, have lunch in Belo/Tsiribihina, and then resume the track to reach the small town of Bekopaka.

Day 7- Bekopaka

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • The Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park offers one of the most spectacular landscapes on the island. Before reaching the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, take a canoe ride to visit caves with stalactites and stalagmites, as well as the tomb of the first inhabitants of the island, the Vazimba.
  • Lunch with a free picnic.

 

Day 8- Bekopaka – Morondava

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Early morning departure to return to Belo sur Tsiribihina.
  • Free lunch.
  • On the way back, you will have the opportunity to see the Baobab in Love. You will also see the Sacred Baobab and the impressive Avenue of Baobabs under a superb sunset. The site has recently been classified as a “Natural Monument” protected area.
  • Arrival in Morondava in the late afternoon.
  • Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 9: Morondava – Antananarivo (Approximately 1-hour flight)

  • Transfer to Morondava airport and return to the capital by a domestic flight. Welcome at Antananarivo airport and transfer to the hotel** or ***.

 

Day 10 : Antananarivo

  • Visit the Malagasy capital, shop for souvenirs, and transfer to the international airport.
